This is your first day of a new rotation in maternity nursing. You can’t wait for this day to come because you want to be a nurse working with new moms and their newborns. You approach your patient, introduce yourself, and she coldly looks at you and says, “What do you need from me?” You find yourself unable to speak, but eventually say “Nothing” and leave the room. How will you re-enter the room and what will you say? How do you make this to be a “good” experience for you both? Which of the 4 theories discussed in the chapter best explains your responses? Why?
